And the method I used, was called "Breaking a problem down to the fundamental core truths" pioneered by the famous scientist Richard Feynman.
I started with what was easy for me: from tech, to tech history. Every professional knows the history of his own profession, from IT, to electrical engineering, to accounting.
Next, I studied the history of technology businesses. Successes and failures. Every tech person knows the history of the tech industry. Companies come and go. Do you remember the names of the once hot tech companies that their names you can’t remember today? LOL
Next, I started my own businesses, with inventories and employees, customers and suppliers, accountants and lawyers, the whole lot, and I got into studying the history of businesses. Every business person, salesperson, knows the history of businesses.
Hey, since I am studying the history of tech, tech industry, all industries, I might as well study all history, of all peoples, all over this planet, since recorded history began. I began to see patterns. Yes, history always repeats itself, but only to those who refuse to study history! Tech bubbles, housing bubbles, stock market bubbles, fashion fads, corporate management fads, lying politicians… a tech company CEO might say something on TV today, and I’d realize: Didn't Prime Minister so-and-so from 200 years ago in Britain use the same trick? Didn’t emperor so-and-so from 2000 years ago in China use the same trick?
Next, since I am breaking things down to the fundamental core truths, I studied human nature, through a branch of science called evolutionary biology. Using evolution, science can explain why we are the way we are, and how big businesses use their secret understanding of true human nature for profit! Examples:
Why it’s hard to stop eating sugar, and fast food companies use their understanding of this science, to get us to buy more;
Why it’s hard to get ourselves to the gym, and fitness centers make money by having people "subscribe but knowing most people will never show up yet they won't cancel (and they sure make it hard for you to cancel!);
Why you know you should be sleeping but social media gets us hooked watching cat videos until 3am.
Organizations big and small are all using these insights listed above on their customers and employees - getting you to sign up for a gym, or getting you hooked on cat videos. Yet they themselves, and their key decision-makers, are not "outside" of any of this! After all, they are humans too! LOL and they will always be human! They feel, think, and act like any other living creature! Professionals must realize the importance of understanding "human dynamic" and utilize that understanding for themselves. For if you don't, the system will utilize your lack of understanding of human dynamics against you :-(
Next, I studied the deepest philosophy on life: You live your “normal, uneventful" life, something "big" happens, you either avoid it, or face the challenge, learn a new skill/wisdom, overcome the challenge, become wiser hence strong, and this cyrcle repeat itself. It’s called “The Hero’s Journey" by Joseph Campbell, it’s the formula of every story from every culture all over the world for the past 5k years, and it’s now used for many Hollywood movies, from Star Wars to The Matrix.
Next, I learned the most effective communication method, called "Neuro-Linguistic Programming", it's used by every effective communicator. From the teacher who had an impact on you, to the politician who got your vote.
As I was learning all these, people started seeking me out, asking me questions, to help them with their: career, communication, leadership, business, life. People started asking me their deepest questions. I ended up coaching. My first client was actually one of my past managers! I’ve already started my own businesses, yet he was still trapped as a corporate slave, with 3 failed escape attempts to start his own business (all 3 businesses failed, because he was focused on tech only, not even aware of business concerns, not aware of human dynamics, mistaken humans for logical rational computers, as opposed to biological beings driven by feelings both long term and short tem)
Next, I ended up teaching business/leadership seminars, for a national seminar company! All over the USA!!! Who knew? This poor boy, growing up hungry, twice the immigrant, escaped his abusive father, is now teaching business/leadership seminars, all over USA, to Americans, speaking his 3rd language?! (1st language: Chinese: 2nd language: Aussie English, which is criminal slang from 200 years ago, what’s respected proper English in Australia, cannot be used by a seminar leader from the stage - Not in America!)
